Connect With Your Values, Your Why, Your Focus and Your How.

If you can connect the work you do to your values, even in small ways, you can change your game. Find your Why. Figure out a compelling purpose. Also, change your Why.

Sometimes you’re doing things for the wrong reason. Are you doing that task to get it done, or to learn something new? Just shifting you’re why can light your fire.

Change your How. You can instantly find your tasks more enjoyable by shifting from getting them done, to doing them right. I think of it as mastering your craft. Make it artful.

Sometimes slower is better. Other times, the key is to make it a game and actually speed it up. You can set time limits and race against the clock. Changing you’re how can get you out of ruts and find new ways to escape the mundane.

Sometimes you need to change your focus. To change your focus, change the question.

If you ask yourself what’s wrong with this situation, of course, you’ll find things to complain about. Ask yourself what’s right about the situation and you can quickly find the positives.

Spending too much time on your weaknesses wears you down. Spending more time in your strengths helps you renew your energy and mindset.

Find the things that you can do all day that you really enjoy. Success builds on itself and this helps you build momentum.

Once You Have Found Your Values, Why, Focus and How, That’s When It’s Time To Do Two Things.

The first is to remind yourself of your own agency. (Agency is the ability to act autonomously, freely, and effectively to control your own life.)

No matter how helpless you may feel at a time like this, no matter what challenges you face, you have control over the little things in your life.

The meaning of motivation comes from within. You’re the only one who gets to decide whether you are going to try something different today.

The second thing to do if you’ve lost your motivation is to follow these three, simple words: Just start it. From their, you will find your meaning of motivation.

You’ll never create the perfect business plan, never find the perfect partners, the perfect market, the perfect location, but you can find the perfect time to start.

I once read a book that said: “If you simply begin to do a task, motivation kicks in within 10 seconds”.

Yes, 10 seconds may be all it takes to shift from “I don’t want to do it” to “I’m already doing it, so I might as well continue.”

Let’s say, for example, you’re trying to get yourself to go to the gym to lose a few pounds for your holiday. Get up right now gather your gym gear, fill a water bottle or do whatever it takes to prep for a trip to the gym and just start it.

You’re far more likely to follow through and actually go if you start doing anything related to your goal.

At the end of the day, the meaning of motivation really comes down to self-motivation. If you want to achieve your goals, you need to stop asking for permission. Motivation stops you from asking questions and aligns you to work towards your goals.

Take enough shots, and over time you’ll grow more skilled, more experienced, and more connected. And that will mean a greater percentage of your efforts will succeed. At the end of the day if you keep taking shots you will find your meaning of motivation.

Ultimately, success is all about taking your shot, over and over again. Sometimes you may win, sometimes you will definitely lose. The more things you try, the more chances you have of succeeding. Put the power of numbers on your side. Take as many shots as you can. There’s no guarantee of success, but when you don’t take a shot, there’s a definite guarantee of failure.
